![]() ![]() From my experience, this change was for better and for worse. Although I didn't have a chance to try it out, I would guess that tacking into the wind-moving back and forth perpendicular to its direction-is a better way to sail upwind.Īs a result of this, ships feel weightier and harder to move than they did in Black Flag. If you sail with the wind, you'll be going at a nice clip of around ten knots if you choose to go straight into it, you'll be reduced to only about two or three. The direction of the wind has a significant effect on you. The sailing mechanics in Skull and Bones are involved and require concentration. In other words, the focus of Skull and Bones rests on how you sail, whereas Black Flag emphasized where you sail. No longer is the game about exploring the Caribbean in a pirate ship now the core gameplay involves piloting that ship through shifting wind and narrow straits in order to take on other ships and collect loot. Even the scenery evokes the vivid tropics of Assassin's Creed IV.īut Skull and Bones' multiplayer moves away from the heart of the Black Flag naval system. ![]() The controls are all the same, and there are a lot of visual similarities, down to the display icons when you're lining up a cannon shot. Going hands-on with Skull and Bones, I easily saw the parallels. It's impossible to talk about Skull and Bones without comparing it to Black Flag even on its stage show, Ubisoft said that it's based heavily on the popular naval combat of the fourth Assassin's Creed game. I strongly believe and would highly suggest for RARE to embrace that aspect of their game instead of just claiming it as a mere 'fantasy pirate game.' RARE needs to celebrate the attributes that make this game special and showcase their distinction.By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's Rarely would pirate crews/guilds/brotherhoods fight against each other. Nautical Piracy wasn't about killing anyone at the drop of a hat it was about rising up as one against that one much larger, restricting, imposing, ruling force. Regarding 'what makes a pirate game a pirate game', SEA OF THIEVES core promotes the fraternity aspect of piracy. In my heart of hearts, I believe RARE is trying to make people, fellow human beings to rethink how they approach gaming: violence is a choice & collaboration can be fostered and reinforced. This type of comment carries a lot of the general character traits of those who aren't happy with RARE, aren't happy with the Game - featuring words like poor game design/mechanics, no game value, forcing situational co-op, toxic players, cosmetics, kills, progressive weaponry. There's nothing wrong with earning new gear that effects the gameplay. But right now rare is still saying this nonsense about "everyone having the same tools" which is total nonsense. I want something with actually game value, like a new gun type, weapon attachments/mods, ship mods, row boat, tools, etc. None of the rewards in this game have value to me because it's all cosmetic c**p, so it's hard to say. Skull ships can give you a fight every time you engage and give you a reward as well. ![]() The best reason for skull ships IMO is because ship to ship combat is overall really fun, but it's way to hard to find and it's only value is doing it for the sake of doing it(no one fights with gold and if they have gold they just run). ![]() It blows my mind that they were talking not that long ago about how crews were locking randoms in the brig and just being typical d-bags you find online and then they force these same toxic people to team up with people that they can kill, steal from, etc. It's called having crew-mates, and it's 100x better co-op than with another crew for a ton of reasons(not being able to murder each-other being a big one). If rare says they are forcing crews together for the sake of cooperation(ignoring that it's subjective to whether that's good or not) then that's BS. If you want a game where you want people to be friend then don't give them the ability to kill each-other. Outside of your crew your "mates", players are the biggest threat to you. This is the post that compelled me to have a S&B/SOT Discussion:Ī pirate game is not a friend building game. From what I've seen since March 2018, I think those who don't like SEA OF THIEVES will enjoy SKULL & BONES, because the two games are very much to separate games. ![]()
